PSYCHOTHERAPEUTIC COUNSELLOR
For the parts of you that are harder to put into words.
Perhaps something no longer feels manageable, or you find yourself caught in patterns you do not fully understand. You may be struggling with anxiety, low mood, relationships, loss, or a sense that something in your life is not quite right.
I offer a thoughtful, supportive and reflective space in which we can begin to explore what may be happening beneath the surface, and how earlier experiences may still be shaping the way you feel, respond and relate. This process can be challenging at times, but being met with care, honesty and understanding can make it possible to approach what has previously felt too difficult to face alone. In time, this can help you feel more able to understand yourself, make different choices and relate to your life in a way that feels more settled and authentic.
Kintsukuroi is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold.
It honours the cracks as part of the history of an object, rather than something to hide.
What is broken can be made whole again - not as it was before, but stronger and more beautiful for having been through it.
Counselling offers a space to explore your story, find clarity and remove barriers in order to move forward in a way that feels true to you.
About Me
I am a qualified psychotherapeutic counsellor, having completed BACP-accredited training in Psychodynamic Counselling, and I am a registered member of the BACP.
Alongside my counselling work, I have a background in teaching spanning almost 20 years, which has given me particular sensitivity to the impact of early experiences, emotional development, family life, school pressures, adolescence, identity and belonging. It has also deepened my understanding of learning difficulties and neurodivergence, and the ways these can influence self-esteem, relationships, emotional wellbeing and a person’s sense of being understood.
Although my counselling work is with adults, this background continues to shape the way I think about people’s early experiences, relationships and the different ways we learn to manage difficult feelings.
My approach is psychodynamic, which means I am interested in how the past can live on in the present, often in ways we may not immediately recognise. Early relationships, losses, family dynamics and formative experiences can all influence how we see ourselves, how we relate to others and how we respond when life feels difficult.
What has brought you here?
You may be feeling anxious, overwhelmed or low, struggling with relationships, navigating loss or life changes, or finding that old patterns keep repeating themselves despite your best efforts to change.
You do not need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. Sometimes there is no single or obvious reason for seeking support — only a feeling that life has become harder than it needs to be, that something does not feel quite right, or that you have lost touch with yourself.
I offer a thoughtful, steady and confidential space where we can explore what may be troubling you or causing you pain, how it may have developed, and how it may be affecting your life and relationships now. I do not offer quick fixes or ready-made answers, but I will listen carefully and work with you to understand the patterns, feelings and experiences that may be hard to make sense of alone.
For me, therapy is not about judgement or advice. It is about having a space where something can be thought about differently, perhaps for the first time. Over time, this can bring greater understanding, a stronger sense of yourself and the possibility of change.
I work with adults experiencing difficulties such as anxiety, depression, bereavement, relationship issues, low self-esteem, the continuing impact of childhood experiences, life transitions, work-related stress, emotional difficulties or a sense of feeling stuck.
If you are unsure whether counselling is right for you, we can arrange an initial session or a telephone conversation. This gives you an opportunity to tell me a little about what has brought you here, ask any questions and get a sense of whether my approach might feel right for you. If we decide to work together, we can begin to explore your experiences at a pace that feels manageable.
Fees
I welcome arranging a phone conversation before we meet.
Initial session: £45
I usually suggest meeting for an initial face to face session first. This gives us a chance to think together about what has brought you to counselling, what you may be hoping for, and whether my approach feels like the right fit for you.
Ongoing counselling sessions: £60
If we decide to continue working together, sessions are 50 minutes and usually take place weekly at the same time each week.
Concessions
Reduced fees may be available depending on individual circumstances. This can be discussed during our initial conversation or session.
